Kranjska gora

Mountainbike routes

The bike park in Kranjska Gora is a real riders park, it’s not build as an alternative to the summerrodelbahn or just to rent out mountainbikes.
The signposting isn’t very clear, so just ride whatever looks nice.
The blacks are real blacks, steep and a lot of roots. Enjoy!
Make sure you dont miss the red to the left of the lift, funky jazz.
It’s steep and smaller roots, so it’s a good warm-up for the blacks.

The village

Kranjska Gora (German: Kronau, Italian: Monte Cragnisca) is a small ski resort in northwestern Slovenia.
It is close to the Triglav national park, so wherever you look you will see beautiful mountains and forests, but sadly this also means that you aren’t allowed to ride your mountainbike everywhere.
For hikers and climbers there are plenty of options, that will often bring you to stunning lakes and waterfalls.

There are two supermarkets called “Mercator” one is in the main shopping street and the other is on the through road. Most food labels are in Slovenian which takes some getting used to if you don’t know any slavic languages.

Campings

There are paid parking spots for camper vans directly below the lift, they are not the cheapest, electricity and wifi are included, but there are no showers.
A couple of minutes away is Natura Eco Camp, as the name implies it is an ecological campground in a natural setting, you can choose a spot in a large field surrounded by trees to pitch your tent. They also have some glamping options, but no spaces for caravans and campers.
About ten minutes away is Camp Spik a larger camping shaded by trees. The pitches could be slightly bigger and you might have to stand in line for a lukewarm shower in the otherwise clean and modern facilities.

Mountainbike trails

Family Business is labelled green on the map, in most bike parks it would be blue. There are no real difficulties, it’s a narrow flow trail ,that can be ridden quite fast if you want to. The track crosses other tracks and the signs aren’t always clear, so make sure you don’t end up on a more difficult track.
Luft Waffe(l) is a wide and fast machine build trail with tablejumps and berms. Beginners can roll this trail, the rest will fly it.
Morning Wood is a mostly natural trail with a mix of different northshores, there are chickenruns for the biggest jumps, but even riding the easiest lines requires some skills. No matter how you ride it, it will get your blood flowing.
Funky Jazz After you leave the lift turn left and climb a bit. This is a natural trail, with a lot of roots and some steeper sections, it is a good warming up for the black trails.
DH Veetranz This is a proper downhill course, experts will love it, intermediate riders will walk some sections, beginners will have difficulty walking those sections. Expect big roots and steep descents, mixed with a couple of flat out sections.

Xc and enduro routes

Mountainbiking in the Triglav national park is not allowed, unless the trail is marked as an mountainbike trail. So below are some other options around Kranjska Gora, besides the bike park.
Have you ridden any other trails in the area please let us know in the comments below.

Robe Twist 20km. After 880 meters climbing on a steady forest road the descent starts out as a purpose built flow trail, suitable for inexperienced riders, the next part is a rougher hiking trail, with some rocks and a it’s a bit steeper, but everybody with basic skills should have fun here. The last part is more challenging with loose rocks, it is possible to go around and descent the last part on the forest road and there are also plans for an easier trail here.
If you enjoyed the first part or third part it’s easy to climb back up on the forest roads and repeat them.

Kinder Surprise 6km 285m’s climbing.
This is another purpose build flow trail, it’s shorter and a bit more difficult than Robe Twist. Because it’s steeper and there is an exposed section, traversing a steep face, but otherwise there are no technical difficulties.

Tromeja Slovenia  16km 1000m’s climbing. This official trail starts at the three-country point (Slovenia-Italy-Austria) and descents on the Slovenian side. It requires good cornering skills, because of all the hairpins, you can roll all of them, but it will be easier if you can pivot on your front wheel.
It’s a fun hiking trail with a lot of roots.

Tromeja Italy  17km 1000m’s climbing. The trail also starts at the three-country point and then descents on the Italian side of the border. It’s not an official trail and you are allowed to ride here but you are sharing the trail with the hikers. It’s easier than the trail on the Slovenian side, you have plenty of options to pick easier or more difficult lines.
